Funding Opportunities for Early-Stage Investigators

Vouchers for CFAR and CFAR-affiliated services: The UCLA-CDU CFAR offers vouchers to offset or cover costs and are reserved for Early-Stage Investigators with limited or no funding.  Vouchers are limited to $2,500 per request.

Rapid Response Awards: To fund projects that require a rapid response and addresses emerging areas of HIV research. The purpose of these awards is to support collaborations and innovative ideas, including feasibility studies and gathering preliminary data, to meet the rapidly changing needs in the field.  See below for application instructions.

Incubator Awards: For any faculty member to hold meetings, think tanks, conferences, seminars, workshops etc. designed to forge new collaborations in innovative arenas relevant to HIV disease.  See below for application instructions.

Travel Grants: Provide opportunities for investigators to travel to countries to engage in collaborations that may instigate and initiate new international HIV research projects. 

Pilot Projects: The UCLA-CDU CFAR provides funding for pilot projects to fund HIV-related research with an emphasis on supporting new investigators and established investigators who are new to HIV research. Each applicant should involve an experienced HIV researcher, for the purpose of guidance and building a fruitful collaboration leading to future competitive funding.

NIH Administrative Supplements: The NIH CFAR Program Office releases an annual call for NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements and/or NIH CFAR Special Supplements. These are grants in specific aspects of HIV research that are offered to all CFAR sites and are considered supplemental funding to the sites’ CFAR grant.
