“Advancing HIV Prevention Science Beyond Universal Models: Person-Centered Insights and for Prevention & Care”

Drawing on over a decade of prevention science research, this presentation synthesizes nuanced insights into population dynamics that are often obscured by universal HIV prevention models. Using person-centered analyses and peer-informed interventions, it demonstrates how heterogeneity in disease vulnerability, risk perceptions, and life course trajectories shapes engagement with HIV prevention and care. These insights have been translated into Dr. Dangerfield’s new handbook, Prevention Science and Targeted Methods for HIV/STI Research with Black Sexual Minority Men, offering a framework for advancing research, clinical practice, and intervention design.
